The Thrill of Performing Lambarena!

By on February 26, 2015

DLShannon_AfricanDance_MAINI had the most thrilling and exciting performance in San Francisco Ballet. I got to perform the lead role in a ballet called Lambarena choreographed by Val Caniparoli. Lambarena is an African-styled dance infused with classical ballet set to music by Bach and african music. It is pure joy to dance and is so much fun to watch.

I saw it performed by one of my favorite dancers, Lorena Feijoo, over ten years ago, and have dreamed of dancing the role ever since. Last week, my dream finally came true. I got to perform the part. It was so much fun to dance.

After the performance, I received a standing ovation and received a big hug and congrats from the choreographer. I will remember that performance for the rest of my life because the energy that I felt by the cast, music and the audience was electric. It was so much fun living my dream!
